TCG Concept Art, Layout Design, and Strategy

TCG stands for “trading card game” - like Pokemon, Magic the Gathering, Weiss Schwartz, etc.

While I enjoyed playing these games with friends, I wanted to develop a power system, art style, and rule set for my own addition to the genre. More specifically, I wanted the cards to stand out against traditional fantasy and anime art styles with my own cut-out-paper / lineless digital art style.

I purposefully made the cards have full-bleed imagery and descriptive titles to make them feel more like characters rather than a scene or framed art pieces. I wanted to create characters that could later be fleshed out, given relationships with others that would effect their abilities, have multiple color ways and background environments, and even have powered-up versions. They would all come together to be a recognizable cast that could later inspire a fan base and brand loyalty.
